What Is Ado.net

What is ADO.NET ?

Ado.Net is set of classes given as part of .Net Framework by Microsoft. These classes allow us to manipulate and update the data from different-different data sources. It is the upgraded version of previous ADO technology.Ado.Net can be the component of any .net Application like
Windows Application ,web Application or xml web Service Application which is a part of .net framework.

Ado.Net stands for ActiveX Data Objects. It includes five objects like Connection,Command,DataReader,DataAdapter and DataSet. This Object model has been categorized under two different models.

1)Ado.Net Connected Model
2)Ado.Net Disconnected Model

Connection, Command and DataReader is used in Connected Model where explicit opening and closing of connection is required.Connection object is used to establish the connection to server with name of server,credentials as per authentication and database name. Command object is used to fire DML operations against database with prior information about connection object. DataReader is used to read the stream of data in read and forward only manner.

Disconnected Model is used with DataSet object without need of explicit opening and closing of connection object. Connection,Command,DataAdapter,DataSet objects are used in disconnected model.
Where DataAdaper is used to fill the DataSet and update the DataBase of actual DataBase server.
DataSet is used as cursor area at client side or server side as temporary cache memory. DataSet is used to work with different type of DataSources at a time.
